"Do you love Hungary that much?"
They looked at each other, it seems they had already discussed this.
"We love life that much."
This quote is from the foreword of the book We Tasted Hungary, published in 1969. According to the author of the introduction, this was the response given by the Nobel Prize-winning duo, Pablo Neruda and Miguel Ángel Asturias, when asked why the book was written.
The reason we are mentioning this now is that the publication contains several collage illustrations—which we photographed for you from our grandparents' collection.
Lake Balaton isn't left out of the book either:
"Those preparing to eat were met with appetite in front of a Balaton fish. This is Balaton, a lake, its water has wings, the lake was dreamt up by the sky."
